Noise is a source of largely felt daily annoyance is especially in urban environment. A study undertaken in 2000 shows that 49% of the
inhabitants of agglomerations of more than 100 000 inhabitants declare that the noise represents a frequent annoyance.
In 2002, the european LIFE ENvironment project named "GIpSynoise" began. It's aim
is to create an integrated Geographical Information
System tool to
match with the 2002/49/CE European instruction with the achievement of
acoustics mappings and related statistic data.
The decision-aid tool "Gipsynoise®" is developed trough the GIS ArcView® 8.3. and the noise caculation runtime CadnaA®.
GIpSynoise is used for road, railway and industrial noise sources. The
acoustics mappings generated by the airport managers may also be
imported into the tool. The types of calculation of the acoustics
propagation are NMPB for the road, SRMII for the rail and ISO96-13 for
the industrial sources (European instruction advices).
The GIpSynoise tool is not an expertise tool. The aim of this tool is
to get a macroscopic idea of real situations. The standard scales
“urban communities”, “communities of cities”
and “towns” are the appropriate scales for the use of
GIpSynoise.
GIpSynoise
is a freeware tool. Sources download is available with a LGPL licence
